3 signs your boiler needs replacing
It is important to be aware of the signs that your boiler is no longer working effectively before making an appointment with a Gas Safe registered engineer. Here are 3 signs that your boiler needs replacing:
1. No heat
A clear sign that you need to make an appointment with a registered engineer is when the boiler is unable to heat water. Tenants should inform agents immediately when the boiler is not working.
2. Flickering light
If the boiler light starts flickering, you should not ignore it as it often means that there is an issue with the boiler. The issue is often related to a lack of oxygen in the system to power it. If the light goes off completely, this could mean that there is a broken thermocouple stopping the gas supply. A professional should be called to check what the issue is.
3. Unexpected noises
Another sign that you need to book an appointment with a qualified engineer is when you start to hear unexpected noises coming from the boiler. This may not be a sign of a significant issue as it could just simply be excess air in the system. A boiler may make banging, or vibrating noises due to limescale build-up in the heat exchange, known as ‘kettling’.
